Who we are
We are a faith based non-profit, that has been working in Uganda since 2005, and with your help we rescue and care for orphaned and vulnerable children and create sustainable community development projects in Uganda, one of the poorest countries in the world.
Operation Uganda Foundation is an Australian registered charitable organisation; ABN 19 980 709 150 registered with the Australian Charities and Non for Profits Commission (ACNC) and has the registered charity tick of approval which gives reassurance to the public that Operation Uganda is transparent and accountable by highlighting its presence on the ACNC Charity Register. Operation Uganda Foundation also has Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) endorsement from the Australian Tax Office (ATO) and can issue tax deductible receipts for gifts greater than $2AUD in Australia.
Operation Uganda focuses primarily on the most vulnerable and destitute children. All the children in our scholarship program must meet a strict criteria of being either orphaned or vulnerable. The women in our empowerment projects are either widowed or solo mothers in destitute situations. Your support makes a real difference to the world’s most needy.

Our Three Pillars
Rescue a child
There are over 2 million orphaned and vulnerable children in Uganda through child sponsorship and the rescue fund we are able to rescue and care for orphaned and vulnerable children.
Empower a Community
After years of war aids and extreme poverty local communities in Uganda have suffered. Operation Uganda empowers communities through skills based training, education and child sponsorship.
Transform a Nation
One child at a time, one household at a time, one community at a time. Together we can transform a nation and help the poorest of poor out of poverty, one at a time.
Our story
In 2004 the Barton family lost all their possessions when their family home in Brisbane was destroyed by fire. From the ashes of despair rose the hope to make a difference in the world.
After losing everything they were convinced more than ever that the most important things in life were not things, but people.
The journey had just begun for this ordinary Australian family, after hearing the statistics and seeing the injustice they packed their suitcases and headed for Uganda. Uganda is one of the poorest nations on the planet with over 2 million orphaned children. Russell and Jenny Barton have a clear vision to empower communities in Uganda and help end the cycle of poverty, one child at a time, one community at a time. Russell and Jenny who are both credentialed ministers with the Australian Christian Churches and regularly speak in churches, community groups and schools to raise awareness and promote projects in Uganda.
Our Work in Uganda
Changing the cycle of poverty is not only dependent on focusing on children, but also on community development on a holistic level, we provide literacy, english and skills based training to members of the community, our community library supports neighbouring schools and our day care centre enables vulnerable mothers to work while their children are cared for in a fantastic environment.
We partner with 25 primary and secondary schools providing capacity building, training, chaplaincy & counselling programs, Shine and Strength programs, computer labs as well as practical assistance such as classroom renovations and construction. Recently we have completed construction of a primary school with over 1,100 students now in attendance and the current construction of a 3 sanitation blocks and an Early Childhood Centre for an additional 150 children. Operation Uganda also plants, supports and works with local churches and pastors in Uganda to develop and stregthen communities.
Operation Uganda is registered with the Australain Charities and Non-profit Commission and has the Charity tick of approval. Operation Uganda also has Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) and can issue tax deductible receipts for gifts over $2 in Australia. We are strategic partners with Australian Christian Churches International Relief ACCIR who is a member of the Australian Council for International Development ACFID, our work is guided by the ACFID Code of Conduct and the ACNC External Conduct Standards.
We are governed by a board of directors and submit regular financial and progress reports to both the ACNC and ACCIR. Operation Uganda is committed to transparency and integrity.
